Batik in jdk1.1.8

Hi ppl again,   I'm just wondering if there is any way of compile Batik with java jdk1.1.8 distribution?    Note: I have the swing classes in a jar file in class_path   thanks   Nuno André Faria SIG Lab, DI Universidade do Minho Braga, Portugal
