Yes it can be used as an applet, but the batik jars are a bit of a big
download for the user.  (Over a LAN or broadband, this is fine.  Over a slow
modem it could be a slight issue).  JWS has better sharing of JARs between
applications than many web browsers' JREs which reduces the issue.
