Didn't think that sounded right; I have too many project names swimming
around in my head.
Anyway, is there any reason why Crimson wouldn't work?  Maybe I will
just have to try it.  I just didn't know if anyone had expierenced any
xerces specifiec library calls in their work with batik.

I was hoping you weren't going to say that.  This seems like a tedious
process.  Did you do this already...how long did it take you to get
everything working?  

I already tried just taking jars out of my classpath, but that caused
ClassNotFoundExceptions.  Given this, it sounds like I will be stripping
out methods and fields as well.
