AffineTransforms

Is there a trivial way to derive the AffineTransform necessary to zoom 
in on and put an SVG element front and center in a very large SVG 
document, just by knowing said SVG elements coordinates? A click on 
element jump to it sort of thing. I have a feeling there is a way 
already. But if there isn't and anyone's interested, I'd be happy to 
contribute what ever convoluted scripting I come up with here.
