Whenever you start your app server (if you're using Tomcat or jBoss or what have you) - you need to have DISPLAY=:1 in your environment: (bash) export DISPLAY=:1 (tcsh) setenv DISPLAY :1 Then just start Tomcat/jBoss/your application - and you should be set.
