Hi Peter, Cameron,

Peter Garza:

Does the Batik team have a tentative date for a next binary release (1.6.1 or something like that)? I've looked on the website, but I don't see anything.

No we don't have a tentative date for this... But I wouldn't hold
my breath. Our next release is likely to be based on the SVG 1.2
standard/branch so I wouldn't expect it to come out real soon.

You can get a compiled version of the latest SVN sources here:

Grab the most recent batik-svn-*.zip file.

Cameron, this is not a binary release it is basically just a
zip of the source tree. It's main advantage is that it avoids
the need to setup SVN (in the old days CVS, and for CVS some
firewalls blocked the port, although SVN fixes that).

Still for a beginner this is the best way to get the current sources.

Back to Peter, assuming you are on windows you should just have to
type:

   cd xml-batik
   build.bat jars

(on Mac OS X, in terminal, or Linux simply replace build.bat
with build.sh).

This will build a 'batik-1.6' directory that is roughly equivalent
to a binary release. Check back if you have problems.
