Hi Scott,
I just noticed Apple released a Java 1.3/1.4 update for
Tiger. Can you check if this fixes the problem?
hi, thomas --
i just installed the Java update on my Powerbook, and it
made no difference in performance -- it's still 20x slower
than under Panther 10.3.9. :(
here's yet another thread from apple's java-dev mailing list that
rehashes the same topic:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-dev/2005/Aug/msg00381.html.
an apple java-dev thread posted in may 05 indicated that an apple
engineer admitted that their implementation of BufferedImage
in Tiger is wanting. but i cannot find any information about
whether and when they might provide a fix. if there's an apple
engineer on this mailing list (or a friend of an apple engineer!),
any chance of providing this information?!
thomas, is there any chance you'll be able to revise how batik
uses BufferedImage/WritableRaster to avoid this performance hit?
thanks,
scott
