Thank you very much for your kind help.

I didn't notice any OutOfMemory Exception on my console yesterday. I start my 
application with following arguments.

Java VM Arguments: -Xmx512m -Xms400m -XX:NewSize=200m -XX:MaxNewSize=250m 
-XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20 -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=80 -XX:SurvivorRatio=6 
-XX:MaxPermSize=32m

I'm not sure if you can assign any parameters to Batik separately? Or shouldn't 
it use the memory assigned to the application in general?

   This sounds like the behavior I sometimes get when Batik runs out of
memory.  Can you check the 'console' and see if someone threw an 
OutOfMemory
error?  Incidentally if you haven't increased the default partition of 
Batik
this could also offer a significant win (check out the -Xmx command line 
flag).
