well my guess is that your jpeg does not contains as many details as your SVG file. A 1MB SVG file can be quite detailed and you can zoom in and interact whereas with jpeg you can't. Naturally, SVG loads a bit longer then jpeg. That is normal.
If you want to speed up loading times, it is probably best to improve the structure or simplify your SVG file. For any suggestions for improvements you would have to post a sample file so we can have a look at the SVG code of the SVG graphics.
