Tried this and works, althoug I get 2 Warnings. I just found out that 
Inkscape can save the svg as pdf. And have a  guess. If I make the 
document larger than 500cm I get a blank page. So this doesn't seems to 
be an issue of batik or fop but of the pdf format except inkscape uses 
fop. Though I couldn't find any details over a maximum width of a pdf. 
Has anybody heard of this?
