This doesn't hold for:
BBDB version 2.2 ($Date: 2000/05/29 22:47:50 $)

 (setq bbdb-quiet-about-name-mismatches t)
(setq bbdb-silent-running t)

name mismatch: "HarryIV Putnam" changed to "Harry Putnam" 

Sorry I've forgotten what version I need for this to work.
