The bbdb texinfo documentation states:

    bbdb.texinfo> @enumerate @item @b{@kbd{M-TAB} conflicts with
bbdb.texinfo> ispell.} Workaround: The binding installed by the
    bbdb.texinfo> @b{BBDB} for address completion/expansion conflicts
bbdb.texinfo> with that used by ispell. The suggested workarounds
bbdb.texinfo> are to rebind the ispell key (the @b{BBDB} binding
bbdb.texinfo> is not configurable at this time), to manually
bbdb.texinfo> invoke ispell via @kbd{M-x}, or to not use ispell
bbdb.texinfo> completion functionality in @b{BBDB}-enabled message
    bbdb.texinfo> composition buffers.

This would be more helpful if you gave an example of how to do any of
these things.

I've been playing with saying:

        (global-unset-key "\M-\t")

in my .emacs before loading bbdb, and that isn't doing it. I think
I'm not the only person who doesn't understand enough details about
how and when the text mode map gets set up to be able to figure this
out.

I'd be willing to never use ispell for anything, but I don't know how
to do that either.
