That's a good thought, and it seems to have fixed the problem.
That might explain why the command rung the bell without signalling an
error, just as C-g does when nothing else is going on. As I said,
this only occurs when bbdb electric mode is on, but it serves me right
for trying to use C-g in another key binding.
An annoying feature about this electric mode in the minibuffer is that
it seems to swallow minibuffer messages. For example, type
'C-<SPACE>'. Normally, this displays 'Mark set' in the minibuffer.
With electric mode on, you'll still get the output in *Messages*, but
see nothing in the minibuffer. I suspect this is because the electric
mode flashes the message so fast that there is no time to read the
message before it returns to the '->' prompt. I'll just have to be
religious about executing <SPACE> after I'm finished with the *BBDB*
buffer.
