I tried installing bbdb as an Xemacs package. It worked fine
(although I think that the default package dir should be
/usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages, since this is what xemacs
thinks the default package dir is).

Two things:

1. bbdb package does not appear to be installed when I do
"M-x pui-list-packages" (the files are there, but I guess some control
info is not created).

2. It seems that info files are not seen by default. They got
installed into a subdirectory of their own, which, it appears, needs
to be added to info path explicitely.

It would be nice if installing as a package gave the advantages that
come with packages: automatic load-path and info-path configurations
and automated uninstallation if need be.
