Well, I probably should have mentioned what I found in the docs in my
original post.
`bbdb-elided-display'
Default: `nil'. Set this to `t' to make the bbdb-display commands
default to displaying one line per record instead of a full
listing. Set this to a list of some of the symbols `'(address
phone net notes)' to select those fields to be left out of the
listing (you can't leave out the name field).
This lets you eliminate some fields from the display, but it is not the
same as the one line display, at least as I have been able to get it to
work. When the value is a list of fields, the display is the regular
multi-line display with the fields in the list elided. The one-line
display is different.
