Thanks for the link. I search on display, elide and field and
didn't find the Q&A.

For as long as I have been using the bbdb, whenever I heard
elide, I associated it with just popup functionality and I
disabled the popup functionality earlier on. I could easily have
extrapolated out that I should have done an apropos on elide and
I apologize, cause I didn't do this. This is almost the first
question I ask, "What is the functionality I'm looking for like?"
Don't know why, but everyonce in awhile, I forget that just about
every answer one could want is just an apropos away.

That would get many more questions.

Yes you would.

Maybe there needs to be two new variables to mirror the
"elide-display" variables. Elide doesn't seem to be a word that
would pop to someone's mind when they are trying to figure out
how to change what fields are displayed in the BBDB buffer,
although display is part of the variable name, so that probably
should be enough.

Maybe:

bbdb-fields-not-to-display
bbdb-fields-not-to-display-on-popup

But then this wouldn't solve the issue as well cause then one
would lose the meaning when it is set to `t'. Maybe the
overloading of an on-off variable with also setting to a list is
confusing the user in this case, or maybe some of the users are
just too dense :-)

Maybe you can have a toggling function to set the elide-display
variables from nil to t and then have the above variable names
(or some variation) used when the user toggles to nil? Maybe
separating the functionality might not be as confusing?

I don't want to be the rock. Yeah, okay, what do you want to be?
I want to be the piece of glass.
