Hi, I have been using bbdb-snarf to pull addresses into the bbdb when I ran into this "feature". When there is an existing record with the same e-mail address as the records that are being imported, then the ancillary details (like phone, address, notes) of the second record is merged with the first and the name of the second record is tossed. I realize that this might be a result of some bbdb setting (like quiet about name mismatches etc), but I think that this behavior is a bug.
When there is a different record (with its own name) being imported, let it at least ask me what to do instead of quietly merging the new with the existing. I realize that this could happen when people tend to use different aliases with the same e-mail address, but this should be a special case and not the default. If there indeed is a variable that controls this behavior, please let me know.
