I hit gnus-group-save-newsrc and all the sudden I am being asked by gnus to pick a new character set for some file.
I find my formerly big5 .bbdb has now all been converted to utf-8, apparently due to a single mail I replied to From: David =?iso-8859-15?q?Mart=EDnez_Moreno?= Well at least I can be sure of what caused it: $ iconv -f utf8 -t big5 .bbdb|tail -1 iconv: illegal input sequence at position 29941 ["David Mart $ tac .bbdb|iconv -f utf8 -t big5 |tail -1 iconv: illegal input sequence at position 23409 ["David Mart Anyway, for the average user, it seems there is no backing out in this situation, other than resorting to backup files.
