Thanks to a bit of encouragement on IRC the other day, I moved my .bbdb out of the way, and that fixed it. As a first step in rebuilding it, I looked at the blank one it built and noticed it had no (( and )) around the address vectors. I deleted those in my .bbdb (perhaps ~750 of each by then), and all worked okay. Today, I had to restart Gnus, and I noticed I had the problem again. There were ((( and ))) again (fewer, of course); I deleted them, and it worked again. So, - I think I read that having the ((( ))) can speed things up. Is that true, or can they be deleted with no impact? - Is there a setting to keep them from being created? - If anyone else has this problem, try deleting the ((( ))).
