Greetings! I started using bbdb short time ago in order to escape google with it's aweful contact management. Some questions have come to my mind and I got redirected to here from IRC channel. Without further talking:
Table of Contents ================= why "net" contact origin field last contacted field standard fields - naming convention why is there no menu? auto-create on sending (only) why "net" ---------- How can I change "net" to "email" ? Is there a reason/suggestion why not to do that? contact origin field --------------------- I want to be able to track how/where I met a contact. I thought of a "origin:" field. Any other ideas on how to accomplish that? last contacted field --------------------- I realized that there is a time stamp on each record. However that is changed every time I open that record. How can I get a similar field but in a way so that I can manually update the (date|times tamp) when I contact that person. I thought I'd just make a custom field called "last contact" or "update" and use C-k, C-u C-c C-! to update it... If someone has another (maybe quicker or more elegant) idea, please let me know. standard fields - naming convention ------------------------------------ Why are the standard fields sometimes written with capital letters like "Home" "Office" "AKA" while "net" "notes" etc are with small letters? why is there no menu? ---------------------- Is there a special reason why there is no menu of bbdb when inside bbdb mode? auto-create on sending (only) ------------------------------ Just as it is the case in gmail, I want to add to bbdb every contact I send an email to. When receiving mail, I want to only update the contacts in case of changed alias/etc. Any feedback on: - how to get there? =] - why that is a bad idea - any better idea? ================= It would be great if you could share your ideas, come up with solutions, point me in the right direction and give me general input/feedback.
