Actually, I am yet more tempted to replace this variable by bbdb-mail-avoid-redundancy as currently bbdb-mail-allow-redundancy supports not only nil and t, but also mail-only -- which is exactly the opposite you might expect from bbdb-mail-allow-redundancy.
