It happens to me too, just once at every start up of Emacs. (So, like, once a week, or so). Start Emacs, start Gnus, start a new email, type adress, hit TAB, see bbdb-record completion, select addressee, and .... Then the pointer switches to the corresponding BBDB entry, instead of being in the mail message.
