That's pretty much the kind of thing got me started with BBEdit
around 1995. I had to edit something like 46000 lines of output from
a program and do some kind of colon and/or comma swapping along the
way. I tried it in Word and a couple hours later it finished. I asked
for ideas since this was an ongoing issue and someone suggested
BBEdit. I owned BBEdit as part of a MachTen bundle, but wasn't using
it very often. That was the turning point for me and I've used it
regularly since then.
