Oh, okay. If I MUST open up the Prefs.... ;-)
Doing so turned into a half-hour editing session during which I cleaned
up and reset all sorts of things. Note to self: open Prefs every 6
months.

Script works fine now, of course. One question: why Python? I notice
the script uses "import os" and "import sys". Is Python particularly
good for working with the OS that way to extract filenames?

BBEdit extracts those values from the web site and passes them to the
script via the environment. The only way to avoid the error is to set
t those values in the web site prefs. Since they are also used by the
plain text updater, having them set is a good idea anyway.
