what I would like to end up with is lines like

<A HREF="Blueshield_BSC500.html">Blueshield BSC500</A>

It's hard to say for sure without knowing what you mean by each one being slightly different, but unless I'm missing a detail (or four) of what you want done, I think something like the following should work with the samples you gave:

Search: ^(.+) ([^ ]+)$
Replace: <A HREF="\1_\2.html">&</A>

Say Bob,

Well that worked but I didn't notice that the space was not always changed to an underscore and now with all the links in a page I need to go back and do this

<table cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3" align="left">
<TR><TD><A HREF="novato bluecross_insurance.html">novato bluecross insurance</A></TD></TR>
</table>

to this,

<table cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3" align="left">
<TR><TD><A HREF="novato_bluecross_insurance.html">novato bluecross insurance</A></TD></TR>
</table>

In looking them over it only changed the last space to an underscore so 2 word links came out fine but any more words than that and the link still has spaces.

Thanks for the reply.
