I was just searching online for a Python glossary/clippings set (is there a
good one?) when I stumbled upon a large forum thread about BBEdit 8.5 vs.
Textmate. One of the comments made by a non-BBEdit lover was about the
*extensive* HTML language support in BBEdit. It really is great as we all
know. His one complaint about it was that it was not as keyboard driven as he
would have liked.

Now, I've been using BBEdit for a quite a while (version 4 maybe?) and have
done several web sites with it (but not professionally). Only in the last 2
years did I discover the Tag Maker (and Edit Tag). HOLY CRAP! It was
incredible.  I was annoyed that this wasn't brought to my attention earlier;
how could I have missed it? The guy's comments on that forum led me to believe
he had no idea Tag Maker existed in BBEdit. The sad thing was that nobody else
on the forum (even those waving the BareBones flag) mentioned it.

Don't know where I'm going with this, but this is something that should really
be highlighted as a very useful feature. I see there's now a tutorial in 8.5 -
maybe it was there all along, but that seems like a good move to me. I should
go through it and start recommending it to people when I recommend BBEdit to
them.

My other (quasi) point. I like what you've done with the clippings menu. Again, all the
functionality was mostly there with glossaries, but it was just out of the way a bit and
a pain in the butt to add new entries. The "Create clipping with selection"
command is very useful.

That was another thing that was really touted in Textmate - snippets or
clippings or whatever they call them. As far as I know, the ability to expand
a word into an appropriate clipping (with insert points and other yummy
features) with a single key combination has been in BBEdit for a while.
However, how hard is it for most non-users to find this out? I know it took me
a while before I realized the full potential. Maybe it's just me :)

I'll have to try Textmate again just to see what it is that I'm "missing."
BBEdit 8.5 really is fabulous - thanks for a great update with a lot of really useful
features.
