bl.spamcop.net BLOCKED connection from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> at

"SPAMCOP" in 10 ms

Why does this happen every month or so? The list tells me I am bouncing
them, and I am, cause I use the spamcop bl, but why and how is barebones
getting in there in the first place?

204.107.232.35 isn't currently listed, so it may not be possible to say. <http://www.spamcop.net/w3m?action=checkblock&ip=204.107.232.35>

Typically, mailing list software tends to run afoul of the Spamcop policy described at <http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/329.html>. Spamcop has a secret list of email addresses which it does not use for anything, but which have made their way onto various spammer's lists (which are, of course, sold all over the place).

The theory is that any mail sent to those addresses is unsolicited and is, therefore, spam. Any site sending mail to one of those addresses therefore gets blacklisted. (I believe that sites blacklisted for this reason automatically get removed after a time if no new mail is received from them.)

One problem that arises (and which is described in the above FAQ entry) is that spammers will often send out mailings with forged return addresses, and those forged addresses may well be one of the 'honeypot' addresses that Spamcop uses to detect spam. Any replies to such a message will be classified as spam by Spamcop and will result in a temporary blacklisting.

Mailing list software tends to run afoul of this because most mailing list software will respond to mail sent to various addresses related to the mailing list. (For instance, if you send an email to a mailing list that you're not allowed to post to, the mailing list software may respond back saying that you're not allowed to post to the list from the address you were using.)

I should reiterate that whether or not this is what's causing Bare Bones's servers to get blocked is pure speculation on my part.
