For the very first time in the 58 years I've lived on this planet (don't ASK about the other ones) I could have used a rectangular selection -- and I forgot.

I use it about once a month for exactly these sorts of edits. the other 10 or so times, I forget.

For example, I just have a bunch of text I wanted to paste into an email. It had a time stamp on each line, something like this:

[12:41:10]\t
[12:41:32]\t
[12:41:38]\t
[12:42:00]\t
[12:42:01]\t
[12:42:04]\t
[12:43:12]\t
[12:43:20]\t
[12:45:28]\t
[12:47:16]\t
[13:21:51]\t
[13:36:34]\t

I could have use rectangular selection instead of

find: ^\[.{8}]\r
replace: null

but that would have required 1) thinking about it and 2) turning off soft-wrap.

I think when you click-option-drag BBEdit should transparently switch off softwrap until you let go of the mouse or option key...

Because you can't cotton to evil. No Sir. You have to smack evil on the nose with the rolled-up newspaper of justice and say,'Bad evil. bad BAD evil'"
