Dear all, I have to work with a program that wants Windows Latin 1 as character encoding for its input files. I can use BBEdit to convert ISO Latin 1 files to Windows Latin 1, but then I get an 'Unmappable characters encountered' message, with the only options to save as UTF-8, or Show unmappable characters.
The unmappable characters are curly quotes or dashes. Is there some way in BBEdit to 'convert unmappable characters to nearest equivalent'? I can do that by hand, or I can convert the whole file to ASCII, or I can save the whole file as UTF-8, but I am hoping for a way to just convert the unmappable characters to the nearest equivalent within the chosen character encoding. Which would in this case probably be a partial conversion to ASCII. Any ideas?
