Hidden metadata files

Is there any way to prevent BBEdit from creating the hidden metadata  
files on Samba/NSF mounted shares? Whenever I edit a file such as  
'Foo.java', bbedit will create a file in the same directory named  
'._Foo.java', which unfortunately gets picked by my compiler and  
causes a build error. The compiler in question is the GWT (Google Web  
Toolkit) compiler which AFAIK *can't* be told to ignore hidden files.
