Hi there,
not sure if this is the best place to send this to, but here's the
deal: I really would appreciate if BBEdit would get a bit better
syntax highlighting support, making it competitive with e.g.
TextMate, Eclipse, emacs or *gasp* vi in that regard :-).
The fact that BBEdit support ctags is a very good start. But it's sad
that so much information is thrown away. After all, the tags file
contains not only a list of symbols, but also a type for each symbol
(f = function, e = enum, d = #define, c = class, s = struct etc.).
Now, if BBEdit would just allow me to use this information... :) Then
I could assign different colors for each of these types, if I wanted
to (which happens to be the case -- it improves a readability a lot,
at least for me, YMMV). For those who prefer the current behavior,
one could simply make a checkbox which turns this off in favor of the
current catch-call color for tags keywords. This way, nobody should
be negatively impacted by this feature (well, except for the poor
coder slaves who are forced to implement it, of course ;).
As a second additional request, it would be very nice if one could
also use styles (italics, bold) for syntax highlighting. It might be
very subjective, but despite being BBEdit user for more than a
decade, it's one of the few features I always missed a lot compared
to other editors.
Just my two cents. I love BBEdit regardless, but that doesn't mean I
can't ask for it to become even better than it already is, right? ;-).
Keep up the good work & cheers,
Max
