Interesting point of view. And I can see where you come from as I myself work for a software company.
But I'm not sure if that is the case universally. I've already paid for BBEdit, now I want to develop a plugin that others can use because it serves their needs (which will translate into more BBEdit licenses). So there BareBones should make more money at the end of the day. My point is that given the fact that there already is a syntax coloring/highlighting routine for existing markup languages, I just want to reuse that and add in language-specific keywords in the plugin, without having to invent the wheel all over again! I already have the necesary wherewithall about the language that I want to write the plugin for. All I'm asking for is a kickstart! I'm not sure if that is all that unreasonable! It just helps to increase the reach of BBEdit. But as you say, if the existing code it is baked in, or people don't want to share their expertise, there will always be other alternatives -- which might offer some advantages. There already is CFEclipse extension for ColdFusion in Eclipse. And I just tried Coda, which ships with CFML highlighting and code completion. Don't get me wrong, I like BBEdit and wanted to just make it a more useful for ColdFusion users, I started thinking about writing the language module. Anyway. thanks for your response. But I think I'll put this idea on hold!
