Nope, the BBEdit syntax parser doesn't like function attributes. I've reported the problem to BBSW, I'm not sure how prevalent it is on their radar though. The syntax parser doesn't like anonymous scalar references either.

I'm not sure if the Perl syntax checking and subroutine recognition is
part of the core BBEdit product, or a plugin - but can anyone tell me
- are there plans to fix this?  has it even been recorded as a bug?

Yes, it has been recorded with support. I hope there are plans to fix it but I'm not privy to their plans.

As for using BBEdit to develop with Perl, it's an excellent tool. There are work-arounds for the syntax parsing, and the other benefits of BBEdit far outweigh the couple of issues with the parser.

Note, I've been writing Catalyst apps for a few years, and I can't imagine using a tool other than BBEdit to get my work done.
