Hi Nick— BBEdit comes with a useful tutorial, available through the Help menu. It covers the basics of grep searching and many other topics. Spending a couple of hours working through the tutorial will put you on a stronger footing with basic stuff like this, and will give you the terminology you need to look up the more complicated questions in the manual.
