You may wish to fiddle with the "Text Files Only" setting in the popup menu at the bottom of the disk browser's file list.

Alternatively, depending on what the files are, you may find it useful to map their filename extensions to an appropriate language in the Languages preferences -- by default, any file not recognizable as text by its metadata is assumed to be text if it's got a mapping to a language.
