There's no point in getting a big discussion about modal versus non-modal editors. I'm sure it's all been had many, many times in the past. Suffice to say that some people find modal editors useful. It really does give many common actions simple single letter commands. I used BBEdit for 10 years straight as my only editor. This past year I finally broke down and taught myself some Vim. For many uses, Vim has nothing on BBEdit, but there are certain areas where it really is better (for me), particularly when it comes to editing and moving text, as well as navigating.
