WordPress automagically strips out a bunch of tags according to its internal
rules, intended to make things easier on clueless people.  Unfortunately, it
can be real annoying to those of us who have a clue or two and are trying to
accomplish a specific result in their html editor.

Try the wpautop-control plugin.  It'll keep WordPress from applying those
rules.
