While that's vaguely unkind, I admit that when I first encountered all those
dialog boxes in back in BBEdit 6.5 I thought, "Hey, that's kind of nifty," and
pretty much never used them except for a few times when I couldn't remember
something especially fiddly (usually CSS).
Something that my time spent with TextMate taught me is that clippings--or
snippets in TM's parlance--are often a lot faster. Make a clipping with the text
<a href="<#URI#>"><#link_text#></a>
And bind it to the key of your choice -- I use Control-Shift-L -- and it's
probably going to be faster than fiddling with the dialog box in the first
place. (Also, you can bind Control-Shift-L to other clipping sets with a
concept of "link," so you know that pressing it does The Right Thing whether
you're using HTML, Markdown, or the template language of your choice.)
