BBEdit's find window seems to use your Mac's "use selection for find" function.
Try this: type "hello" into BBEdit's find window, switch to Safari and search google for "goodbye", now switch back to BBEdit. You'll find that your BBEdit find window now contains the word "goodbye". Also, try it backwards: Type "Hello" in Safari's "find on page" box, then search for "goodbye" in BBEdit. When you switch back to Safari you'll find your Safari search has been changed to "goodbye". This annoys me every day, but it's a feature.
