text editor to spreadsheet is usually done with CSV(comma separated value) or tab separated value(which I've never used) However going back and forth with CSV has been trouble free for me. I believe you will find that any spreadsheet app will have a CSV export option and for a text editor it is simply a matter of putting the correct extension on the file as well as maintaining the correct formatting.
