I couldn't remember offhand where they do/don't work, only that I had spotty experiences and they never worked in BBEdit... so, to answer your question, I just tested in a few programs and discovered that they've now stopped working everywhere. I have no idea why. (BTW I'm still running Snow Leopard.) I googled a bit but didn't find a clear answer.
