I am working directly in an epub file with BBEdit. When doing a live preview

does not render. However, if I crack open and work with the xhtml files the
preview works fine.

Any ideas to fix this, or is there something I've missed?

My suspicion is that this is related to how BBEdit opens EPUBs in a
way that's not quite like a normal disk browser, due to having to
unzip and rezip each file.

Well, unzip, anyway. :-)

It also can't search across the entire EPUB, which is what I really
want.

That should be possible today; have you found something that convinces you otherwise?

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.
