That happens to be the exact DTD I was already using on that page. BTW, if
I remove the entire block of link code, the page validates fine, so it's
probably not some kind of weird cascade thing either.

So why are you getting a different result from me? Two possibilities come
to mind...

- What version of BBEdit are you using? 10.x? Might it have a more
sophisticated validator than the version 9.6.3 I'm using?

- Some obscure configuration option? I just tried unchecking *everything*
in the BBEdit Preferences "HTML Tools" section... I unchecked *all* the
"Generate syntax checker warnings for:" and "Generate link checker warnings
for:" checkboxes to make it as liberal as possible. (I had them all checked
before.) It made no difference: your code block still generated the same
error as before. So did my code block, for that matter, although they're
different errors. So the obvious Prefs seem to make no difference... that's
why I'm wondering if it's configurable by some obscure config option or
something.

Quite mysterious.
