Hi. I'm a bbedit user from 1999, maybe before. I'm a web developer, so my
languages are mainly html, css, js, php, less, ruby. Now I need to learn
and use Slim.
Over the last years I've been tempted more than a time to switch to more
'modern' text editors like Text Mate and Espresso.
I always decided to stick on bbedit because I ended up thinking it has more
features after all, and some better ones.
I also made a lot of feature suggestions over the years. In the best cases,
i was told 'yes, we will think later', and never saw them done. So I'm not
expecting nothing more here, but I try..

I see the new player is Sublime Text. It's quite innovative in many things.
It doesn't matter. But it can use TextMate Bundles. I need Slim text
coloring and it seems there's still no language module for that.
Also, I think at least 1 year ago I pointed out that Less was going to be a
standard, and bbedit needed a less module. Angry folks said no no it's
sass. That was the answer. Now the devs "seem" to be considering including
less. Less IS a standard.
The fact is just this: bbedit badly need a better way to be able to quickly
adapt to new languages. Sublime solved it by being textmate-compatible.
Smart.
Yes, there are codeless language modules. Some say, do one by yourself. I
say I could, but it's not so simple, still not enough. Codeless language
modules are not enough. Maybe it's simply not possible to find a more
simple way to define one, but there's at least another way to let
programmers find quickly a new module: use a shared way. And a way that
shares with a mainstream way, so there more code from more good
programmers. Will it happen in bbedit? I think no, as always, but I always
try.
