Hi. I have had in a way the same problem with the settings.php files in Drupal's multisite system. Now I use a shell script, preferred written, tested and started in BBEdit, to change settings of all Drupal sites in a batch mode. Probably this style of working with multiple files could be sufficient for your request. Displaying pathes in the sidebar could be not very practicably because of the length of the pathnames.
