I would like to request option for pure Unicode sorting (not Apple's folding one.) My major issue is with Japanese phonetics.
じょ shouldn't come before しょう unless you are writing a Japanese telephone book. I need to sort things the way MySQL would. People not working with Asian script should find it useful to sort all the Latin capitals before lowercase Or have all the accented characters after the ASCII ones. Others options that would be good to mix and match: ignore case and fold with caps first ignore half-with & full-width Japanese characters ignore Japanese phonetics (Very esoteric, but since folding is there, maybe an Apple Finder compatable sort would be useful to someone. It is slightly different.) I use BBEdit all day (have for more than 15 years) and I use Sort and grep search/replace more than anything else. -Huge 100MB+ XML files Having to use another app to get Japanese text the way I need it is a pain. I have tried Patterns and Text Filters, but can't get what I want -and it is not the most elegant way to do it. While I am here... It would be great to turn off auto-saves or edit history temporary. Having to wait for a minute after editing just one letter before being able to anything else really slows me down. The huge file sizes is the problem. -- This is the BBEdit Talk public discussion group.
