I am using mostly vanilla Mail.app (although I do have a number of rules and smart mailboxes active, plus the Letter Opener Pro plugin is installed) and have experienced no problems with that email address on my system. Just now I went back and looked at several instances of it that are currently in my Trash mailbox, and didn't notice anything in particular. I moved one back into another non-Trash mailbox to see if anything happened, and... nothing. Could there be some rule being applied in your set-up that (I'm just guessing here) gets into trouble because it interprets the user-name portion of the address as an additional, defective, email address?
