Older Mac’s have your kind of problem. I had similar stuff going on with a 17”
laptop, especially after a Maverick upgrade, although it started somewhat
before. What helped is an upgrade of memory and a general cleanup of the
system. If your Mac is an older machine, the problem will persist although not
so bad that it will be annoying.
