I don't know if you still want to do this, but I can tell you what I did.  
I opened up an FTP browser that was looking into the directory that held 
the file of interest.  I then dragged the file from the FTP browser window 
to the Project panel and a list was created for me.  Now all I have to do 
is click on the link in the project and the file opens for me.
