Good { morning, afternoon, evening },
We're working on a major upgrade to BBEdit, and have decided to
make a pre-release version available to the BBEdit-Talk
discussion group.
*** Please note that 12.0 is not an automatic free upgrade. Your
license code for BBEdit 11 or older will not work, but you
should have no difficulty using BBEdit 12 in evaluation mode for
the duration of the standard 30-day evaluation period.
*** If you purchased BBEdit 11 very recently, or are about to do
so, there is no cause for alarm - we will announce free-upgrade
details and send license codes to eligible customers when the
new version is released.
*** You can use BBEdit 11.6.8 and 12.0 side-by-side for the
duration of the beta period, if you wish. (This is actually a
good idea, since you can cross-check any problems against the
old version while writing up a bug report.)
Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions.
If this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the
public release versions is your best course of action. Nobody
will be offended if you choose to do so; you're under no
obligation to install and use anything but a public release. :-)
Following is a summary of changes since the most recent
pre-release build. Complete change notes for all of the
pre-release builds in this cycle are available here: <https://s3.amazonaws.com/BBSW-download/12.0_Notes.txt>.
The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.
One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <[email protected]> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.

version 12.0 (399007) (2017-09-22)
Additions
---------
o (none in this build)
Changes
-------
* The alert for "Clear Undo State" is now window-modal instead of
application-modal.
* [344009] Clicking the Reload button or using the "Compare Again"
command for a Differences window will set keyboard focus on the
list of differences, ready for navigation.
Fixes
-----
* [NFR] Fixed bug in which the "go to document" icon was drawn
incorrectly in the toolbar of live preview windows.
* [NFR] [343625] Fixed regression in which scripting access to
documents from a -documentDidOpen attachment script would fail.
* [NFR] [343880] Fixed bug in which status/navigation bars would
get erased while click-tracking on an item with a popup menu.
* [NFR] Corrected button placement above the differences list
in Differences window.
* [NFR] Fixed regression in which commands triggered by a
contextual menu operation were not targeted to the view hosting
the contextual menu if a different view had keyboard focus. So
for example, using the "Definitions" contextual menu
command in a
search results window's text view would not do anything if the
results list had keyboard focus.
* [NFR] Fixed vertical alignment of text in FTP browser/save panel
list items.
* [NFR] Fixed vertical alignment of text in Setup window list items.
* [NFR] Fixed vertical alignment of text in palettes for
folder-backed menus.
* [NFR] Fixed vertical alignment of text for the multi-file
"Confirm Close" panel.
* [NFR] Fixed vertical alignment of text for the modal text
encoding panel.
* [NFR] [344118] Fixed regression in which it was not possible to
use unmodified Function keys as keyboard equivalents.
* [NFR] [344150] Fixed keyboard-loop navigation in the Confirm
Close panels.
* [NFR] [344149] Slightly increased the contrast of disclosure
triangles for hierarchical lists in sidebars and other locations
when a dark color scheme is in use.
* [NFR] [344144] Fixed regression in which minimized windows
weren't noticed when processing the window list, and so if all
windows were minimized, clicking the dock to bring the
application to the front would not un-minimize the first
available window.
* [344275] Fixed bug in which git-ignore filtering in the Open
File by Name window didn't work in cases where the data source
was a BBEdit project that was not itself in a Git repository.
* [NFR] Fixed a bug in which Differences windows could undergo
object resurrection when being closed. This never ended well.
* [NFR] Fixed bug in which system input state was mismanaged when
using the Backspace key during inline input. This led to crashes
such as the one reported in [344237].
* [NFR] [344605] Fixed bug in which the title of a multi-file
Differences window didn't immediately update when a pair of files
was selected in the sidebar.
* [NFR] Made a change to the modal progress dialog mechanics so
that updates are a little smoother.
* [NFR] Fixed bug in which pressing the Escape key in a source
control commit window would dismiss it and discard your
commit in
progress without warning.
* [NFR] Fixed some misbehaviors when using non-Roman inline input
systems.
* [NFR] Fixed bug in which the Redo menu item always read "Can't
Redo" in cases where everything had been undone.
